Tips to Maintain Drywall
As we’ve mentioned before we truly believe that properly placed drywall panels are going to be able to hold up fine regardless of what happens. There are things that you can do though, to help them out a little a bit. For the most part, the tips that we are going to be giving out on this page revolve around cleaning methods. Also, we want to answer some questions that people tend to have about drywall in bathrooms. Hopefully, we will be able to give out some wisdom here that will help you with your drywall issues.
How To Clean Drywall
In cleaning drywall you are going to want to use low moisture methods. Water is never a friend of drywall and that could be tough for some people that tend to use a lot of it in their cleaning methods. Using a damp cloth is basically the most water that you could be using. Now, you can use a duster and even a vacuum cleaner all you want. These are not going to cause any type of trouble. Just don’t go too far with the use of water. If you use a hose and things like that, you are asking for trouble.
Prevent Moisture Spots in Bathrooms
Bathrooms tend to be the room inside your house that can have the most moisture issues. The easy tip to avoid them is to ventilate the room properly. Now, here in Kenosha, that’s easier said than done. You are not going to want to open the bathroom windows after taking a shower in the winter. That’s a health risk no matter how you look at it. We need to limit the presence of moisture to prevent moisture spots, so the best thing that you can do is install and use an extractor.
Use The Right Type of Paint
Many drywall issues come about as a result of a poor paint job. Sometimes what we find is not that the drywall itself is too battered, but the paint job is just terrible, and makes people start speculating over whether or not they have moisture issues. If you use the right type of paint and you repaint every couple of years you are going to limit your chances of having drywall issues. We know that you may think that you can save a couple of bucks with the cheap paint. It can come back to haunt you in the long run though.
Protect Your Walls While Moving, Don’t Overuse Nails
Two final tips that we want to give out is to protect your walls when you are moving in. When you are moving in or out of a home there is a good chance that you are going to hit some of the walls with the furniture you can use sheets to cover the walls, or just call us when you are done moving. Also, don’t have that many things nailed to the walls! That can certainly limit any potential problems down the line!
